This site is dedicated to the farmers, farmland, and rich agricultural history of Iraqi Kurdistan.
Seeds of Kurdistan was created as a sister site to
The Iraqi Seed Project- a documentary film and web resource that follows the history of farming in the Fertile Crescent.
We wanted to create a separate site for Iraqi Kurdistan because of its unique geographic and regional conditions, and because of the special role agriculture holds for Iraqi Kurds. Until the 1960s 66% of Kurdistan's population were farmers, today that number has fallen to 17%.
Seeds of Kurdistan is a growing resource and media project that highlights the accomplishments of Kurdish farmers as they build their agricultural sector.
